Newborn found in the trunk of mother's car

GASTONIA, N.C.--Gastonia Police have found a newborn infant in the trunk its mother’s car. The infant was found around 3am Saturday morning at a woman’s healthcare office parking lot. Police believe that mother gave birth to the infant in Charlotte around noontime on Friday and then drove to the healthcare office in Gastonia for an appointment. She was then taken to Gaston Memorial Hospital.
The mother of the child told hospital staff that she originally left the baby in box at a hospital in Huntersville, but the hospital staff was unable to find the infant. Gastonia Police started questioning the mother even further and then found out the baby was in the trunk of the car. The baby has been taken to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Gaston Memorial Hospital and is expected to be alright. So far no charges have been filed against the mother. Gaston County DSS has been notified and has responded to the hospital. The incident is still under investigation.

Beyond Sad. Everyones heart breaks for that baby... But, I feel so sorry for the mother, how does someone get so lonely so disconnected from community that they feel this desperate?
